Wall News poster No. 40, Atoms for Peace exhibit (Farsi, distributed in Tehran)

A landscape Farsi wall newspaper titled 'Progress of Iran', No. 40, built from six photographs and captions on the Atoms for Peace exhibition at Tehran University. Captions describe cancer treatment with radiocobalt, the Shah opening the exhibition on 15 Esfand 1335, a protective suit on display, crowds queuing, and a Voice of America listening notice. The tell is glittering generalities: 'peace' and 'atomic energy for the improvement of life' frame the exhibit, with transfer from the Shah and President Eisenhower portraits.

Atomic energy works wonders in helping to treat incurable diseases such as cancer. In this photograph one of the guides of the Atoms for Peace exhibition shows the way of helping in the treatment of cancer by radioactive rays, which are one of the fruits of atomic energy. Thousands of the people of Tehran have visited this exhibition at Tehran University.

Magic hands: in this exhibit radioactive materials are moved by scientists behind a thick glass screen that stops radioactive rays passing, and with these hands they can carry out some experiments and tests. In this photograph His Imperial Majesty is looking at the magic hands.

On Wednesday 15 Esfand 1335 His Imperial Majesty the Shahanshah opened the Atoms for Peace exhibition at the Faculty of Science. In his opening speech the Shahanshah said: the aim of this exhibition and of the agreement between Iran and America is the development of science and knowledge, the encouragement and promotion of the use of atomic energy for peaceful purposes and the betterment of human life.

Atomic power is used in various fields. In this photograph one of the guides of the Atoms for Peace exhibition gives His Imperial Majesty the necessary explanations about the possibility of using atomic power in medicine, agriculture, factories and electrical products. The Atoms for Peace exhibition is open to the public every day from 3 to 9 in the afternoon.

The first benefit Iran has had from the agreement between Iran and America is the Atoms for Peace exhibition at Tehran University, which shows many ways of using atomic power for peaceful purposes. Soon Iran will have machines of its own, which will be tested and experimented with as the second benefit of that agreement.

The crowding of the people to see the Atoms for Peace exhibition was such that the organisers found it necessary to line people up in a long queue to enter the exhibition.

This plastic suit is one of the spectacular and wonderful objects displayed at the Atoms for Peace exhibition.

Small italic Persian type; several clauses (the 'magic hands' caption, the last lines of the 'first benefit' caption and the time figures in the Voice of America box) are read with some uncertainty and the translation is approximate in those places. The sign in the exhibit photograph reads 'Atoms for Peace' (اتم برای صلح).
