Indie en Nederland is EEN. Weg met Soekarno (The Indies and the Netherlands Are ONE. Down with Sukarno), slogans chalked on a troop lorry
A group of eleven Dutch soldiers in greatcoats with rifles and kitbags stands in front of army lorries on a cobbled square. On the tarpaulin of one lorry, someone has written by hand 'Indie en Nederland is EEN' and below it 'WEG MET SOEKARNO'. The tells: the first slogan states unity as a fact with no argument behind it (glittering generalities), and the second names one leader as the thing to be removed (scapegoating).

Read from the 1280 px Rijksmuseum IIIF rendering; both lines are handwritten in white on the lorry's tarpaulin and the first line is underlined. The museum's own description gives the same wording. Translation is FRAME's own literal rendering.
