Two tall banners on the unfinished Centro Financiero Confinanzas tower in Caracas spell CHÁVEZ VIVE ('Chávez lives'), one above a portrait of Hugo Chávez and the other above a figure in a tricolour sash who appears to be his successor, Nicolás Maduro. The tell is the pairing: the dead leader's name and image are attached to the sitting officeholder.
