Official notice of the referendum on Croatia's status, Republic Commission (Zagreb, 9 May 1991)
Framed printed notice headed OBAVIJEST (Notice) with a red-white strip and the chequerboard shield at the top and a ghosted 'REFERENDUM' behind the text. It announces the vote of 19 May 1991 and prints two questions, each answered ZA or PROTIV, on a blue and a red ballot. The tell is the wording of the questions: the first, on an independent Croatia, includes a guarantee of cultural autonomy and civil rights for Serbs, and the second attributes the option of staying in a single Yugoslav federal state to Serbia and Montenegro.
