INTERESANTE GIRA CULTURAL—Once profesores del Colegio Vocacional "Santa María de Guadalupe" de Santo Domingo de Heredia han sido invitados por el Departamento de Estado de los Estados Unidos para realizar una gira cultural por esa nación, con el fin de efectuar estudios sobre administración de escuelas vocacionales y nuevos métodos de enseñanza en las diversas ramas vocacionales. El Embajador de los Estados Unidos en Costa Rica Sr. Raymond Telles recibió la visita de esos profesores y les dio calurosa felicitación.

CEREMONIA DE GRADUACION—El Embajador de los Estados Unidos en Costa Rica fue invitado recientemente a pronunciar un discurso en la ceremonia de graduación de la Universidad de Louisiana. En su discurso, el Embajador Telles exaltó el carácter de la Alianza para el Progreso como una revolución pacífica y democrática, "con cambios sin caos; con esperanza sin aversión; con progreso sin dictadura". Aquí aparece el Embajador Telles con dos distinguidos catedráticos universitarios.

COOPERACION FRATERNAL—Estudiantes de la Facultad de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Costa Rica trabajaron durante un día entero en compañía de los expertos "Sea Bees" (Abejas del Mar) de la Marina de los Estados Unidos, cuya misión es realizar trabajos que eviten catástrofes a causa de los desbordamientos del Río Reventado. Los futuros ingenieros trabajaron hombro a hombro con los "Sea Bees" en la maquinaria pesada que el pueblo de los EE.UU. ha enviado al pueblo de Costa Rica.

EL PRESIDENTE DE LA REPUBLICA señor Francisco J. Orlich ha sido invitado por el Presidente de los Estados Unidos Sr. Lyndon B. Johnson a visitar oficialmente aquel país, por espacio de una semana. El señor Orlich será el primer Presidente latinoamericano que sea recibido en la Casa Blanca por el actual Mandatario norteamericano. El Embajador de los Estados Unidos Sr. Raymond Telles puso en manos del Sr. Orlich la invitación correspondiente.

LA FIESTA DE LA INDEPENDENCIA en los Estados Unidos se celebra el 4 de Julio. Fue en esa fecha del año 1776 que se firmó la Declaración de Independencia de esa nación. Todas las comunidades de aquel país celebran este día con imponentes desfiles, conciertos de bandas, paseos familiares al campo y maravillosos fuegos artificiales. La gráfica ilustra uno de esos fuegos en la ciudad de Washington, en la noche del 4 de Julio.

LA ASOCIACION COSTARRICENSE de Profesores de Inglés ofreció recientemente una fiesta de despedida en honor del Sr. Earle Sherman, Director del Centro Cultural Costarricense Norteamericano y su señora esposa, con motivo de su traslado a Cali, Colombia. En la recepción los profesores expresaron una vez más su reconocimiento por la excelente labor realizada por los esposos Sherman durante más de cinco años, en todo lo relacionado con la enseñanza del inglés.

EL CENTRO DE REHABILITACION de niños lisiados en Santa Ana cuenta ahora con un magnífico sistema de filtros para su piscina. Esta adquisición fue posible gracias a una donación de dinero hecha a ese Centro por un grupo de ciudadanas de San Antonio de Texas, EE.UU. En la foto aparecen las señoras Marita de Orlich, Delfina de Telles, María Elena de Terán y Gertrude Rehwoldt, quienes junto con el Dr. Humberto Araya observan a los niños disfrutar de su baño matutino en la piscina.
