Content note: Anarchist front page after the 1930 coup calling for a general strike and calling the new authority a fascist dictatorship. This object is shown as it was published. Why
La Protesta, front page, 7 September 1930: 'Llegó la hora' (The Hour Has Come)
Front page of the Buenos Aires anarchist daily the day after the military coup that removed President Yrigoyen. Headlines read 'Buenos Aires under state of siege', 'The military dictatorship has triumphed' and 'The military dictatorship of Argentine fascism'; a boxed call, 'The hour has come', says the people hold the word, the arm of the unarmed people is the General Strike, and that anarchists will be with the people. The tell: the page names the new authority with the labels 'dictatorship' and 'fascism' and pairs them with 'the people' and 'liberty' as the cause to rally behind.

[masthead:] AÑO XXXIV — Buenos Aires, Domingo 7 de Septiembre de 1930 — N.o 6672 LA PROTESTA Diario de la mañana FUNDADO EL 13 DE JUNIO DE 1897 Redacción, Administración y Talleres: Perú 1537.—U. T. 0478 B. Orden.
[masthead:] YEAR XXXIV — Buenos Aires, Sunday 7 September 1930 — No. 6672 LA PROTESTA Morning daily FOUNDED 13 JUNE 1897 Editorial office, administration and workshops: Perú 1537. Buenos Aires under the state of siege The military dictatorship has triumphed The military dictatorship of Argentine fascism THE HOUR HAS COME The people hold the word! The anarchists will be with the people! Our means of information do not allow us to wait until the last moment for confirmation of the news. But from various places we are told of the advance of the troops of reaction on the capital, and these troops come under the command of officers loyal to the Military Junta that [sic: 'se formado'] to implant the dictatorship. The situation, then, allows no hesitation. The people hold the word, and the arm of the unarmed people is the General Strike. The anarchists will always be with the people! We, as anarchists, are! The military dictatorship will mean for the people of this country whole years of degradation, of renewed misery and of increased servitude. Against the dictatorship all resistance is legitimate. So many years of proletarian propaganda, will they have served for nothing? We, who will be the first to fall before the vile claw-stroke of fascism, will fall to the cry of Down with the dictatorship! Long live anarchy! For liberty against tyranny! For the people against the exploiters and oppressors! Neither passive nor accomplices!
Headlines and the boxed call 'LLEGO LA HORA' are transcribed in full; the lengthy body columns beneath the other headlines are not transcribed. 'se formado' is as printed. Machine translation by Claude, not verified by a fluent reader.
