Lonesome Road, 1956 US cartoon: A road sign reads UPPER LEVEL CAMPAIGN HIGHWAY. Two arcing lines labelled ADLAI and IKE leap

Lonesome Road

A road sign reads UPPER LEVEL CAMPAIGN HIGHWAY. Two arcing lines labelled ADLAI and IKE leap over a roadside fence towards a broken cliff edge, and a pair of upturned shoes and puffs of dust show a figure falling into a gap in the road. The cartoon argues that the two 1956 presidential candidates have left the high road of their campaigns; the technique, if any, is a selective visual frame of both candidates alike.
