The News in Pictures poster, No. 3 (Arabic, Beirut)

An Arabic-language fold-out photo sheet (headed 'News in Pictures') of six captioned news photographs: the Paul Taubman band's concert crowd in Leopoldville, Ethiopia's award to two Americans and an Eleanor Roosevelt stamp, African journalists at a Johnson campaign rally in Baltimore, a Liberian soccer coach at Beloit College, a U.S. relay team at the Tokyo Olympics, and Martin Luther King Jr. voting in Atlanta. The tell is card-stacking: the items are selected as goodwill, achievement and civic participation, and the Nobel and Olympic names transfer prestige to them.

The African journalists saw President Johnson and his running mate Senator Hubert H. Humphrey win by the largest majority in history. The picture (at right) shows Vice-President-elect Humphrey during a visit to a child-care center; he had played an important part in securing the American Congress's approval of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. At the end of their tour of the United States the African journalists stated that they now better understood the reality of the American electoral process and held a view full of admiration and appreciation for American hospitality and racial progress there.
