Acting President Putin and General Troshev at a paratroop regiment ceremony (Russia, 20 March 2000)
Putin in a dark overcoat and tie stands with a serious expression beside a soldier in a camouflage cap who salutes, with another soldier's camouflage sleeve and a microphone at the right. The tell is the civilian head of state framed alongside a saluting officer at a military ceremony, which pairs the acting president with the army's authority and the war's returning troops.
