(With a little guidance, traditional handicrafts become a source of wealth for farm villages) (Japanese poster distributed in Asia, U.N. Day Poster #9)
A Japanese-language photo poster on village handicrafts. A woman is seen through the warp threads of a loom, with woven matting in the foreground. The text says home weaving, pottery, woodwork and metalwork are important side income for rural people, that many countries are reviving them, and that U.N. specialists advise on raising output and quality. The tell is glittering-generalities: village revival is promised from 'a little improvement' without figures.

Text on the object
With a little guidance, traditional handicrafts become a source of wealth for farm villages. For rural people, home spinning and weaving, pottery, woodwork, metalworking and the like are an important way of earning side income. These home industries have barely survived in competition with mass-produced goods. Now many countries are trying to revive their own handicrafts. U.N. specialists give advice on ways to increase output and improve quality. Great results are often achieved with a little improvement, and if it succeeds, the villages will be revived. 9
