Content note: Anti-strike newspaper front page of 1919 calling strike leaders 'traitors' and linking the strike to 'Bolshevism'; also an 'Alien Act' headline. This object is shown as it was published. Why
Winnipeg Telegram, Extra, front page, 9 June 1919 (Winnipeg General Strike)
Extra edition under a banner reading 'POLICE FORCE FIRED', with a column headed 'An Appeal to the Striking Soldier'. The appeal tells returned soldiers that their strike is read by 'the vast majority of citizens of Winnipeg' as sympathy with 'Bolshevism' and with 'traitors'. Tells: loaded labels for the strike leadership and a majority-opinion claim standing in for argument.
