Summary

Semafor on 2 September 2026 and Riddance AI's parallel report document a YouTube and TikTok line of hybrid personas they call ghost creators. Paid actors and Fiverr spokespeople read formulaic, AI-assisted scripts on news-style channels while AI headshots and thumbnails dressed the brands. Riddance, tracking from early June through mid-August, logged more than a dozen linked channels, 45 million YouTube views and more than 90,000 comments, plus TikTok clips. Named surfaces included Omar Reacts, William Reports News, Victoria Foster Report and Julian News Report. Targets were mostly Democratic officials: New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani first, then Gavin Newsom, J.B. Pritzker, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and others; two personas also hit Mark Carney. Casting copy offered about 26 dollars a script. On 3 September YouTube told Semafor it had terminated 20 channels for spam. The paying political client, if any, is not established.

Analysis

The last two briefs in this vault covered a Qatari WhatsApp-to-newsroom line and a Russian-aligned German Landtag video farm. This cycle rotates to a U.S. commercial production shop that sold political grievance as independent talk-show hosts.

Primary open record is two dated investigations plus a platform statement. Semafor, 2 September 2026, reconstructed Virelox as a post-2025 University of Chicago shop associated with Caleb Chan, previously Casgains Academy. Chan's own April 2026 posts claimed more than 106 YouTube accounts with a May target of 300; an August post claimed a network of more than 500 ghost creators and compared the product to cheap organic reach for brand clients such as Cluely. Riddance AI, tracking from early June, grouped about a dozen political channels that shared music beds, catchphrases, editing cadence and companion sites, and counted 45 million YouTube views and more than 90,000 comments by mid-August. Named hosts included Omar Reacts / Omar Talks Canada, William Reports News, Victoria Foster Report, Julian News Report and related Canada skins. The payload was overwhelmingly anti-Democrat: Mamdani first, then Newsom, Pritzker, Ocasio-Cortez, Seattle's Katie Wilson, with a smaller Carney pile. A brief Trump strand existed; it was not the mass of the catalog.

The method is rented plain-folks plus a detector dodge. YouTube auto-labels fully synthetic avatars and voices. A real face reading an AI-assisted script trips none of that. Riddance and Semafor recovered Backstage and Upwork listings for a news-related on-camera spokesperson and a 26-dollar-per-script rate. Kareem M. Maize, the man on Omar, told Semafor he had lied about being based in New York or Canada and that some editing was outsourced. Frank George, the man on William Reports News, said the spots were paid ads and named Casgains as the broker. That is the astroturf tell: a neighbor-host who is a gig worker. Disclosure-theater is the rest of the costume. Chan emailed Semafor that Virelox is an independent publisher with more than 50 staff and does not produce for campaigns, PACs, ideological organizations or paid political clients. The same company's public pitch invited brands to buy content. After Semafor called, reference pages came down and the site followed. An 30 August on-video disclaimer on two channels did not name the operator or the persona swap. Manufactured-consensus is many differently named hosts arriving at the same cut. Outrage-bait is the hook: the insult travels; the sourcing does not.

On 3 September YouTube told Semafor, via Max Tani and a follow-up item, that it has strict policies against spam and deceptive practices and that after review it terminated 20 channels, the 13 in the article plus seven related, for spam. That is a volume-and-authenticity cut, not a verdict on the underlying claims about any named official.

This is propaganda where origin is a paid shop, institutional form is a local news host, and the design goal is to move midterm-year belief without the audience seeing a production company or a payer. It is not a finding that every criticism of Mamdani or Newsom is a Virelox product, that YouTube's 45-million view count is all human, or that a party committee bought the graph. The client gap is load-bearing. Score the production line as documented. Score any PAC only where a contract or a post names one. A same-method test applies in reverse. A shop that paid actors 26 dollars to read AI scripts attacking Republican governors, with the paid tag only in a buried email, would be this brief with the nouns swapped.

Literacy counter: if a YouTube host you have never heard of is suddenly a daily correspondent on one city's mayor, look for the twin channel, the shared piano bed, the Fiverr face and the missing payer. A real face is not a newsroom. Apply the same host-to-payer test when the scripts point the other way.
