The Daily Alaska Empire, 'AXIS DECLARES WAR ON RUSSIA' front page, 23 June 1941

Front page of a Juneau daily the morning after the German invasion of the USSR: a full-width banner reads 'AXIS DECLARES WAR ON RUSSIA' and a second full-width banner 'JAPAN CAUTIOUS ON MAKING WAR MOVE', over an Associated Press report headed 'NAZI BLITZ ROLLS OVER RUSS BORDER'. The invasion is a documented event; the technique tagged is the ordering of the page, where a Japan story for a Pacific-Northwest readership takes the second banner and the Soviet-side account is carried in a single AP column.
