Content note: Nationalist-zone front page from the first day after the capture of San Sebastián, calling its opponents 'hordes of red bandits and murderers' and celebrating the arrival of the columns; shown as printed. This object is shown as it was published. Why
El Diario Vasco, front page (San Sebastián, 14 September 1936): "El glorioso Ejército español ... libertan San Sebastián"
Front page the day after Nationalist columns entered San Sebastián. Under the banner "¡ARRIBA ESPAÑA! - ¡VIVA ESPAÑA!", the headline says the army, the Navarrese requetés and the fascist militias "free" the city from the "horrendous tyranny" of two months under "hordes of red bandits and murderers"; the deck claims "delirious enthusiasm" from the townspeople. The tell: a collective label and a crowd-mood claim stand in for an account of events, while a box on the page warns that no official news service yet exists.
