Content note: Wartime Persian-language nationalist newspaper front page with an illustration of armed men behind a banner; no graphic content. This object is shown as it was published. Why
کاوه (Kaveh), no. 1, Berlin-Charlottenburg, 24 January 1916
Front page of the first issue of Kaveh, a Persian-language fortnightly printed in Berlin-Charlottenburg. A signed line drawing by B. Richter shows armed men rallying behind a raised banner, under a masthead named for Kaveh the blacksmith of the Shahnameh, and the lead article opens with a couplet from Ferdowsi about casting off Zahhak's yoke. The tell is the borrowed symbol: a national legend is pasted onto a wartime political appeal addressed to Persian readers.
