Content note: 1864 anti-Democratic cartoon with Black and Irish caricatures in draft-riot and slave-auction scenes. This object is shown as it was published. Why
The Chicago platform
Broadside signed 'Th. Nast', hostile to McClellan though laid out like a campaign platform sheet. Around a portrait of McClellan watching Malvern Hill, each Democratic platform resolution is paired with a vignette that the LOC describes as supporting its reverse: bloodhounds chasing a Black man, the 1863 New York draft riots, a slave auction, soldiers guarding a polling place, and Union graves. Below are extracts from McClellan's letter of acceptance and from Pendleton's speech in Congress.
