Suomalaiset sotilaat! (Finnish soldiers!): Soviet leaflet on a 'fratricidal war' and German masters
A Finnish-language Soviet text leaflet with a script headline, addressed to Finnish workers and farmers as soldiers. It names 'Hitler', 'Mannerheim, Ryti and Rangell' as the cause of a 'fratricidal war', calls Hitler a 'cruel human beast', and ends with an offer of safety to those who cross to the Red Army. The tells are one named villain class for many causes and loaded labels in place of evidence.

Text on the object
Suomalaiset sotilaat!
Finnish soldiers! You, Finnish workers and farmers, are for the second time being forced to fight against the workers and farmers of the Soviet Union. The people of the Soviet land did not want this war. It wants to live in peace and friendship with the Finnish people. Why, then, did this fratricidal war begin? Why do you shed your blood anew and cast your families into hunger and suffering? The war began because the cruel human beast, Hitler, dreams of enslaving the whole world. Mannerheim, Ryti and Rangell sold your native land to the German usurpers, who now use you as their cannon fodder in this war. Hitler intends to make the Finnish people his slave, as he has enslaved the peoples of Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Holland, France and Czechoslovakia. Soldiers of Finland! The war is needed only by Hitler, by millionaires and by generals, who grow rich on military supply contracts and by robbing the working people. Because of the war the worker's bread does not grow larger and the farmer's land does not expand. For workers and farmers the war will bring in the future only poverty, hunger and many other sufferings. Thousands of innocent people perish in war, thousands remain cripples for the rest of their lives. Your minister of supply said on the radio that Finland supposedly has plenty of grain. This is a brazen lie. There is no grain in your country. The Ryti-Rangell-Mannerheim government gave the German occupiers all your grain stores. It even handed over the grain which the Soviet government sent before the war to the starving families of workers and farmers in Finland. At the same time your fathers, mothers, wives, sisters and children suffer hunger. Finnish soldiers! Turn your weapons against your enslavers, the German occupiers, who have forced their way into your homes and eaten your last bread. Drive them out of the land of Finland! Go over to the side of the Red Army, and you will be guaranteed safety and a good life. Long live peace and friendship between the Finnish people and the peoples of the Soviet Union!
Read from a 793 px by 1200 px copy. A few letters at the right edge of the sheet are clipped or smudged ('Mannerheim' in the grain paragraph, 'tunkeutuneet', 'ajakaa'); they are written out as read. 'Kansanhuoltoministerinne' is rendered 'your minister of supply' (literally 'people's welfare minister').
