Schoolboys and Schoolgirls of Britain Help on the Farms During Their Holidays (For Freedom series, F.D./F.3)
Three photographs show a boy with a hay load on a Scottish farm, boys building a haystack and two schoolgirls picking peas, under the title on children's holiday farm work. The tell for transfer is the Union Jack device and 'For Freedom' label, and for glittering-generalities the claim that the young volunteers work 'eagerly' because 'they know how important it is to the war effort', which asserts motive without evidence.

Text on the object
F.D./F 3 Helping to bring in the hay on a Scottish farm. (Above) British boys on the farm learn how to build a haystack. (Below) British schoolgirls help with the pea picking. FOR FREEDOM SCHOOLBOYS AND SCHOOLGIRLS OF BRITAIN HELP ON THE FARMS DURING THEIR HOLIDAYS HERE the boys are building a haystack and the girls are picking peas. Life on a farm starts early, so they are called at 6.15 a.m. They begin work at 9 a.m. and finish at 5 p.m. British schoolboys and schoolgirls have volunteered for this farm work eagerly, for they know how important it is to the war effort that the farmer should have every possible assistance—particularly at harvest time. Britain's youth is playing a great part in the record mobilisation of Britain's manpower.
