ワクチンの新製造法によつて、家畜は、恐ろしい牛疫から護られる。 (Through a new method of making vaccine, livestock are protected from the dreaded rinderpest) (Japanese poster distributed in Asia, U.N. Day Poster #7)

A Japanese-language photo poster about livestock vaccination. Two men in white coats treat a cow while a third man in a turban holds its chain, with bare hills behind. The text says foot-and-mouth disease and rinderpest kill many animals, that vaccination protects them but is still too costly, and that FAO is researching cheaper manufacture and easier inoculation. The tell is plain-folks: ordinary herders and technicians shown as the beneficiaries of a research programme.

Through a new method of making vaccine, livestock are protected from the dreaded rinderpest.

In Europe, livestock are food and property. Yet every year thousands of head die of foot-and-mouth disease, and the loss is enormous. On other continents the damage is greater still because of rinderpest, which is as dreaded as foot-and-mouth disease. But vaccination can protect livestock. The vaccine is still too expensive. The FAO is researching improvements in the method of manufacture and simpler inoculation.
