What Is Revolutionary Development?
A horizontal photo-sheet (code SP-1366) is headed 'What is rural construction?' (NARA's English title: 'What Is Revolutionary Development?'). Its framing phrases, 'the whole people joining hands to build' and 'to bring benefit to themselves', sit beside photographs of a canal being dug, a doctor examining a patient, a bridge, a school and a market. WHAT IS RURAL CONSTRUCTION? IT IS THE WHOLE PEOPLE JOINING HANDS TO BUILD ..... The purpose of the rural construction effort is to rebuild villages, develop community structures, foster the spirit of mutual aid and together create the amenities needed for the countryside. Schools, maternity homes, markets, bridges and culverts, roads, and dikes and dams are built and repaired for the people. The sick are devotedly cared for with medicine by doctors and nurses. Projects are carried out to improve and develop the new life in villages and hamlets. The rural construction programme is a firm bastion against the enemies: FEUDALISM [phong] - COLONIALISM [thực] - COMMUNISM [cộng] - POVERTY - HUNGER, DISEASE. Digging canals and building dams is also taken up by the people to raise crop yields. ...TO BRING BENEFIT TO THEMSELVES..... Doctors and nurses examine and give medicine to the people in remote, out-of-the-way villages and hamlets. Roads and bridges are built and repaired to make transport convenient for the people. The school is a place for the children of the people to study. Markets are built right in the villages and hamlets so the people have a place to buy and sell.
