Un Humanismo Técnico JORNADAS de la ALIANZA Desde Washington, el Secretario General de la OEA, José A. Mora, dirigió un mensaje especial a las "Jornadas", divulgado por la prensa de Bogotá. "La cooperación activa —dijo— de la mujer y de las fuerzas laborales, es factor determinante de confianza en los programas de fortalecimiento de la economía nacional y oportunidad para cumplir el criterio con que hayan de resolverse los grandes problemas de carácter social y económico de la hora presente". El mensaje fue concretamente dirigido al ex-Presidente Darío Echandía, Jefe de la Comisión Colombiana de la Alianza para el Progreso, y a los demás miembros que la integran. Las Jornadas del Sindicalismo El líder sindical, Tulio Cuevas, Presidente de la Unión de Trabajadores Colombianos (UTC), hablando en la "Jornada Laboral", expuso: "Podemos resumir los trabajadores el programa en cinco puntos vitales para nosotros, y ellos son: trabajo, tierra, vivienda y escuela". A su lado, el doctor Echandía y el Ministro Escobar. SE OYERON ESTAS PALABRAS... "Si una bala segó la vida del Presidente Kennedy, ninguna podrá destruir su obra redentora" (GUILLERMO LEON VALENCIA, Presidente de Colombia). "Trabajar no sólo para el pueblo, sino con el pueblo" (VICENTE PIZANO RESTREPO, Director Nacional de Acción Comunal). "Es preciso un mayor aprovechamiento de los recursos naturales del país especialmente del hombre" (VIRGILIO BARCO, Ministro de Agricultura). "Una invitación a los pueblos americanos para el esfuerzo conjunto en los planes de desarrollo" (JOAQUIN MERCHAN ZARATE, Gerente encargado del Instituto de Crédito Territorial). "Un plan conjunto para llevar los esfuerzos del Comité a la población campesina" (RAFAEL SAMPER, Coordinador Ejecutivo de la Comisión Colombiana de la Alianza para el Progreso). "Ocho millones de campesinos colombianos viven hoy en minifundios y sólo reciben lo necesario para subsistir". El ex-Presidente Darío Echandía, Director de la Comisión Colombiana de la Alianza, subrayó la importancia del decreto del 22 de agosto, con que el Presidente Valencia persigue el impulso de la Acción Comunal dentro de la Alianza para el Progreso. La Jornada Femenina El sector femenino participó por primera vez en una "Jornada" de la Alianza. En la tercera reunión (Septiembre 3, 10 a.m.), instalada por el Ministro de Educación, Pedro Gómez Valderrama, y presidida por doña María Currea de Aya, doña Migdonia Barón, Representante a la Cámara, dijo: "Debemos formar una alianza entre las mujeres y la Alianza". Doña Blanca Gnecco de Samper preguntó: "¿Qué es la Alianza?" Y ella misma contestó: "Salud, vivienda, educación, trabajo y tierra". La doctora Irene Jara de Solórzano comentó que uno de los mayores obstáculos de la Alianza era el mal entendimiento de sus propósitos. Cerca de cuatrocientas damas de diferentes condiciones sociales, asistieron a esta "Jornada de la Mujer".
