Communist Subversion in Latin America poster, 65-325 (Arabic poster distributed in Beirut)
An Arabic-language edition of the photo-and-text sheet presenting seized weapons, ammunition and literature from Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Argentina as evidence that Cuba directs 'Communist subversion' in Latin America. The tell is fear-appeal and card-stacking: arms photographs and attributions to Cuba carry the argument, with loaded terms and no counter-view.

Text on the object
COMMUNIST SUBVERSION IN LATIN AMERICA Communist subversion, with Cuba behind it in organization and direction, today poses a continuing threat to the security of all the countries of the Western Hemisphere. This treacherous interference in the internal affairs of free nations comes from the very country in which the Communist takeover shattered people's hopes for freedom and justice. Since a free country has never of its own will chosen Communism as its fate, the Communists have resorted to weapons and propaganda to force their way to power wherever possible. In Venezuela a terrorist plot was uncovered whose aim was to prevent democratic national elections there in 1964, by the discovery of tons of arms and ammunition (see photographs at right) and equipment hidden in secret hiding places. The Organization of American States condemned Cuba as an aggressor state for supplying the terrorists with arms and ammunition. The photographs seen here are eloquent witness to the subversive activities exposed in other regions of Latin America: Colombia, Peru, Brazil and Argentina. IN VENEZUELA IN COLOMBIA: Communist subversion in Colombia mostly takes the form of organized bands of highwaymen. Cuban Communist propaganda publications (left) were smuggled secretly into the country in order to strengthen Communist control of these gangs. The hiding place in which the publications were found was discovered in the stronghold of one of the rebel leaders in the Marquetalia sector. Evidently, pamphlets of hatred and incitement are, for the Communist effort, no less important than guns and bombs. IN BRAZIL: In Brazil, during the anti-Communist revolution the country saw in April 1964, nine Chinese Communists who had come as "trade delegates" were arrested and later deported. The police found these weapons (right) among their belongings, with a list of names of some Brazilian democratic leaders marked for assassination. In accordance with Communist tactics, these Chinese entered the country under false faces, and their concern was to undermine peace in the Brazilian countryside. IN PERU: In Peru, the authorities last year found huge quantities of subversive Communist propaganda pamphlets entitled "The Peruvian Revolution Marches On" (left), in addition to weapons and instructions on how to use explosives. The then Minister of State, Senor Juan Languasco, announced that the shipment came from Cuba "where many young people of Peru and other countries have been trained for the purpose of stirring up disturbances and unrest." IN ARGENTINA: The great distance separating Argentina from Cuba did not prevent trained Cuban gangs from reaching Argentina and carrying on their activity on its territory. This display (right) of weapons and equipment in Buenos Aires reveals what the Argentine authorities confiscated from a group of Castro agents. The Organization of American States has worked to isolate Communist Cuba from the rest of the countries of the Western Hemisphere because of these dangerous, disquieting activities. 65-325 (6)
