NEWS IN PICTURES

ROUND THE WORLD, via Japan, the Pacific, United States and the Atlantic, wounded troops from Dien Bien Phu arrive in France. Transport of the victims of the fight against communists in Indochina was provided by the U.S. Airforce in one of the longest airlifts of its kind. Here, Madame Mendès-France, wife of the French Premier greets a wounded soldier.

EDUCATION PROGRAM contracts for Pakistan are signed in the United States by Foreign Minister Chaudhry Mohammed Zafrullah Khan (left) and Harold E. Stassen, U.S. Foreign Operations Administrator. Contracts, totaling $3.3 million, will finance a three-year educational program in Pakistan.

CHINESE FINGER PAINTING by the Singapore artist Wu Tsai Yen is exhibited in England. The artist paints with his finger on scrolls in classical oriental style, while his wife mixes the colors. The exhibit is believed to be the first of its kind in Europe.

PAKISTAN STUDENTS, studying at American universities hold a three-day conference at the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Sponsored by American Friends of the Middle East, the conference was attended by 100 of the 300 Pakistanis now studying in the U.S. Mrs. S.G. Khaliq, wife of Pakistani diplomat addresses the conference.

BIOGRAPHY OF GHANDI is presented to U.S. President Eisenhower by India's Ambassador to the United States G. L. Mehta. The eight-volume biography is the work of D. G. Tendulkar, one of India's outstanding scholars, and represents a lifetime of research. Illustrations for the books were collected from all over the world.

PARTY FOR ORPHANS was given by personnel of the U.S. aircraft carrier "Randolph" at Marseille. Aboard ship, some of the 220 French orphans are treated to ice cream, cake and lemonade by the Sixth Fleet sailors.
