Returning Home
A portrait sheet headed 'Return to the old village' says thousands who fled Communism have gone back to their home villages under the government's Rural Pacification campaign, citing Long Hung village in Sa Dec province, where 264 families of over 1,500 people had returned by late November 1968. Seven blue-tinted photographs show registration for building materials, a militiaman with an M16 rifle, a reopened market, a new school and rebuilding work. The tell is the growing return count presented as a mass movement, with a single armed local militiaman as the security image.

RETURN TO THE OLD VILLAGE Thousands of people who earlier fled Communism have now returned to their old home villages since the Government of the Republic of Vietnam launched the Rural Pacification campaign. Long Hung village, 150 kilometres south-west of Saigon, is a concrete example. Earlier the Communists infiltrated this village, so the entire population left. By the end of November 1968, when the people of Sa Dec province learned that the Communists had been driven out, 264 families of more than 1,500 people had come back one after another to their old homes in Long Hung and the villages of Hung Quoi, Hung My Dong and Hung Thanh Tay to make a living. Along the Sa Dec-Bac Sac canal, on both banks, one sees the people's bustling activity rebuilding their houses with materials supported by the Ministry of Social Welfare and Relief. The families who returned all quickly received food, tools and building materials after registering at the Long Hung village office. Registering to receive building materials. This militiaman is happy with the latest M16 rifle. The market place is bustling again. Reconstruction work.
