"A bandeira americana não se deixará varrer dos mares" [The American Flag is not Going to be Driven from the Seas] (Portuguese edition)
A photograph of a large warship on the slipway at launch is set in a blue border of white stars, with a flag graphic, a captioned portrait of President Roosevelt and a Portuguese headline in quotation marks attributed to him. The attributed quotation is a statement by a named leader (testimonial), and the flag, stars and presidential portrait lend national authority to the picture (transfer).

Text on the object
PRESIDENTE ROOSEVELT
"THE AMERICAN FLAG WILL NOT LET ITSELF BE SWEPT FROM THE SEAS" ...PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT. America is doubling the tonnage of its navy, which is already the most powerful in the world, so as not to allow the seas to be enslaved by any aggressor power, ensuring instead their freedom, for the strong and for the weak alike. What you see being launched there is one of the 17 new battleships, each of 35 thousand tons or more, raising the total to more than double what any other nation has. PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT
