Progress of Iran

No. 57. This bulletin is published every two weeks.

According to Dr. Morteza Faris [name uncertain], director general of the health department, seven years ago the Point Four office in Iran began health activities. As a result of their success the Ministry of Health set up the public health department in Tehran and the provincial towns, which has raised the country's level of health suitably.

His Excellency Dr. Raji, Minister of Health, said in a press interview: "The fight against malaria will be pursued with seriousness this year, and a new compound has been prepared for the fight against the mosquitoes of the southern regions that resist DDT. As a result of this campaign, in some parts of the country agricultural products have risen by about ninety per cent."

Malaria control is one of the programmes carried out jointly by the Iranian government and the American aid programme with complete success. Some regions before the malaria campaign had about ninety per cent of people ill with this disease, and now this figure has been reduced to five per cent.
