米国琉球民政府の援助に依り琉球政府は灌漑ダムを完成することが出来、その式典を挙行した ガリオア物資販売積立金より1300万円を費し民政府より機械を借り受け民政府食糧資源部の米人技師達の監督の下で今度石川と仲程にダムが完成されたが、これで米の生産高が大量に増加される事が期待される。ダムの完成はどちらも1952年の5月に行はれたが、土地開発協会では此のダム建設に要した費用は20年以内に[illegible]のである。 石川地区の農民達はダム完成に依り米の年平均生産高は二倍の五十万九千六百三十八ポンドになると見ている。 八百四十呎の長さを有する石川ダム前の水田。 琉球民政府天然資源部長[name partly illegible]氏はこの借款返済法は他の政府案を遂行するのに非常に良いと述べた。 仲程ダム建設の際灌漑水路工事に多くの人々を必要とした。 ダム建設のアメリカ側の援助に対し米國民政府に感謝の辞を述べる琉球政府主席比嘉秀平氏。 三百六十呎の仲程ダムは米生産高を今迄の五倍に高めた。 水田に注ぐ水は仲程ダムの後方にたくわえられている。今では水田の面積は三倍以上の四二・三エーカーである。 (J)
With the help of the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus, the Ryukyuan government was able to complete irrigation dams and held the completion ceremony. 13 million yen was spent from the GARIOA goods-sales reserve fund; machinery was borrowed from the civil administration; and under the supervision of American engineers of the civil administration's Food and Natural Resources section, dams were completed at Ishikawa and Nakahodo, from which a large increase in rice output is expected. Both dams were completed in May 1952, but the Land Development Association [clause unreadable] the cost of building the dams within 20 years. Farmers of the Ishikawa district expect the dams to double average annual rice output to 509,638 pounds. Paddies in front of the 840-foot-long Ishikawa dam. The director of the Ryukyuan government's Natural Resources department, Mr. [name partly illegible], said this loan repayment method is very good for carrying out other government plans. Many people were needed for the irrigation canal works when the Nakahodo dam was built. Mr. Higa Shuhei, chief of the Ryukyuan government, expressing thanks to the U.S. civil administration for American help with dam construction. The 360-foot Nakahodo dam raised rice output to five times the former level. Water pouring into the paddies is stored behind the Nakahodo dam. The paddy area is now more than three times larger, 42.3 acres.
