THE VINH LONG AUTHORITIES DEVOTEDLY SERVE THE RURAL PEOPLE The Vinh Long provincial social delegation often goes to localities in the province to hand out allowance money to the families of compatriots fleeing Communism, in the first stage of their arrival to settle and re-establish normal life in the new-life hamlets. A poor old woman, after receiving many gifts of aid, was also visited by Captain Duc Ton (Vinh Long), the district chief, who asked after her health and her present life. The bridge shown above, cast in reinforced concrete, is 135 thuoc [Vietnamese measure of length, about a metre] long and spans the Lai-Vung river in Duc Thanh district (Vinh Long); it is one of the bridges linking traffic from villages and hamlets to the town, built through the efforts of the Vinh Long rural construction programme. Many water-filtration plants have been set up by the provincial authorities in many densely populated places. SP-1116
