Chieu Hoi Activity in Darlac Province: Unforgettable Memories

A landscape photo-story in Vietnamese and a second Central Highlands language shows the opening of a new Chieu Hoi centre in Darlac on 18 October 1966, with communal meals, a provincial official crouching to greet a child and a JUSPAO troupe singing. The text speaks of ralliers' smiling faces and 'the warmest family feeling'. The tell is the everyday scenes: ordinary meals and children stand in for the treatment a defector can expect.

CHIEU HOI ACTIVITY IN DARLAC PROVINCE: UNFORGETTABLE MEMORIES.
[Rhade-language parallel headline, not translated.]

On 18-10-66, Darlac Province inaugurated a new Chieu Hoi centre under the chairmanship of Lieutenant Colonel Province Chief Le-Van-Thanh. Attending, besides the ralliers staying at the centre, were many ralliers who had settled back home from all over the province and returned to gather.

One of the rows of banquet tables, with the delighted, open faces of the ralliers.

A rare coincidence: the centre, just completed with its spacious, cool houses, has had occasion to receive some 100 ralliers returning, the highest number in the months up to now.

The next night an intimate banquet was held. The women Chieu Hoi cadres were assigned as reinforcements to help the ralliers organise the sumptuous feast.

And an unforgettable image! At this festive banquet were also whole families of ralliers; the Lieutenant Colonel Province Chief and a number of guests who attended also ate at the same tray and chatted intimately with each person. The Lieutenant Colonel is tenderly welcoming the child Le Van Phuong, son of rallier Le Van Thien.

The cultural-action troupe of the JUSPAO agency came to entertain, with moving songs that added to the meaning of affection, family and fatherland.
