Luftpost No. 16, 2 September 1941: "Es gibt kein Zurück!" and "Der Weg der Pimpfe"

Front page of a German-language leaflet newspaper. A photograph of two Hitler Youth boys sits beside an article on the 'Pimpfe' now 'falling by the hundred thousand in Russia', and two boxes below set 'Fallen' (German losses, from 'official Russian reports') against 'Risen' (share prices of arms firms). The selective pairing and the closing question to parents ('Are they too doomed to go the way of their brothers?') carry the appeal, and 'Führer clique' labels the leadership.

[rest of the Churchill quotation not transcribed here]

"There is no turning back!"
- ALFRED ROSENBERG ON 25 AUG. 1941

THE PATH OF THE PIMPFE (cubs)

It is eight years since the twelve-year-old Hitler cubs were allowed to march along at the first Party Rally in Nuremberg. For the boys it was glorious, this playing at war. They understood nothing of politics, and could not guess for what bitter emergency this game was preparing them.

The cubs of that time are the ones who now fall in Russia by the hundred thousand. A whole generation of German youth is being slaughtered for the world-conquest delusion of its Führer clique.

It is too late to save these age groups. First spiritually and mentally corrupted for eight years, then ordered off to die by an infallible Führer - they are lost.

A new generation is growing up in Germany. It, too, is learning to play at war. It, too, is being trained with coldly calculated thoroughness for "the most sublime moment in the life of the German".

The Hitler cubs of 1933 lie in mass graves in Russian soil or in field hospitals far from home. The Hitler cubs of 1941 are still cubs, innocent and full of life. Are they, too, damned to go the way of their brothers?

Hitler's and Churchill's war aims
Alfred Rosenberg on 25 August 1941:
"The meaning and aim of our struggle is a Germanic Europe . . . . And should anyone ask what preparations Adolf Hitler has made for a retreat, then each of us will answer: German people, there is no turning back! It is about Greater Germany!"
Winston Churchill on 24 August 1941:
"Between the attitude which the United States and Great Britain adopt today, and that which the Allies adopted in the last stage of the previous World War, there are two clear differences. [rest of the Churchill quotation not transcribed here]

FALLEN
Two and a half million German soldiers have, according to official Russian reports, been killed or wounded so far on the Eastern Front. Here is a short list of western and southern German provinces and states that have suffered particularly heavily: [illegible - list of regions and army units, stained and folded in the scan]

RISEN
Since the beginning of the Russian campaign, armaments shares on the Berlin stock exchange have risen sharply. Here are some examples:

Partial transcription: the Churchill quotation after its first sentence and the stained regional list are not transcribed. In the share-price table a small fraction sits beside several prices (for example after 426); the fractions are too small to read reliably in the committed scan and are omitted.
