She gave me courage...
Photograph of a bandaged wounded soldier propped on a bed, with a nurse's profile in the corner. A first-person quotation from Private Hyman Fishoff describes a shell hit and his nursing, under the headline 'She gave me courage...'. The named patient's testimonial is the main technique; the wound adds a fear cue.

Text on the object
"SHE GAVE ME COURAGE..." PRIVATE HYMAN FISHOFF, field artilleryman from Brooklyn, New York "The burst of an .88-mm shell cleaned out my post. Two of my buddies were killed and five of us were wounded. We were up front near St. Lo and really giving it to the Germans with our fire when, I guess, one of their guns 'zeroed' on us. Four hours later they had me in a field hospital, and they cleaned up my arm. Army nurses were everywhere. The one that took care of me was grand. She did everything for me. She gave me my penicillin treatments, but best of all, she gave me courage and made the long, painful hours go by faster with her quick smile and cheerful manner. You know, that field hospital was quite close to the lines and sometimes the roar of the guns made me a little nervous, and I needed someone to help me control myself. Well, the Army nurses did a great job for me and I owe them plenty. They were never too busy to help." MORE NURSES ARE NEEDED U. S. ARMY NURSE CORPS [imprint: P-140-RPB-9-9-44-15M]
